Chasing Light in Northern Norway: Our Tromsø & Senja Experience

Aurora in Norway Senja
Capturing Aurora Borealis In Norway Using Cameras on Tripods

We knew this trip would be special before we even landed. As our plane descended into Tromsø, we were welcomed by an unforgettable hour-long northern lights show right from our seats. What an insane introduction to the Arctic and it pretty much set the tone for everything that followed!

Making the Most of Tromsø

We made the most of our time in Tromsø with northern lights tour and a day tour with local guides, giving us a deeper understanding of the culture, landscapes, enjoyed delicious homemade soups prepared by our guides, and explored the hidden gems of the region. It was the perfect way to ease into the Arctic environment before the next leg of our journey.

I love this crew

After our time exploring Tromsø, we boarded a comfortable and spacious bus that would take us to Senja. The journey itself was part of the experience! We passed by snow-covered landscapes stretching endlessly, with dramatic fjords and soft Arctic light guiding the way.

Senja: Where the Magic Unfolded

Our adventure in Senja began with Ronald Söthje, whose guidance helped elevate the entire experience. From the moment we arrived, we were immersed in a landscape that felt both raw and peaceful.

We were incredibly fortunate to witness the northern lights five out of six nights. Each display was unique: some soft and subtle, others vibrant and powerful. Some nights, we simply lay down and watched, taking in the moment without the need to capture it.

Days of Light and Flight

During the day, we focused on flying our drones and exploring the landscape from above. Sunrises, golden hours, and sunsets blended together in the Arctic light, giving us endless opportunities to create. From frozen coastlines to winding fjords, every flight revealed something new.

We also want to give a special shoutout to our friends at Vallerret Photography Gloves for helping keep our crew warm. They sent their incredibly warm Skadi Pro mitts all the way to our hotel in Senja, and they were already waiting for us when we arrived.

Our Signature Series Drone Case XL from f-stop Gear also performed flawlessly, protecting our drones through the harsh winter conditions we faced.

Our home in the island of Husyøy

We stayed in our private, two-bedroom luxury cabins on the quiet island of Husøy, offering the perfect balance between comfort and immersion in nature. It became our retreat after long days in the cold, and the ideal place to unwind while still being surrounded by incredible scenery.

Throughout the trip, we enjoyed delicious, fresh-caught seafood at local restaurants. Simple, flavorful meals and hot cocoa nights became a highlight of our evenings, followed by more spontaneous Aurora sightings!

A Journey to Remember

From our first glimpse of the aurora above Tromsø to the unforgettable nights in Senja, this trip was a reminder of why we chase these moments. The Arctic has a way of slowing everything down, allowing you to truly be present. It’s an experience we will never forget, and we couldn’t have asked for a better group to have shared this first tour of 2026 with!
